A new offering .. this one absolutely free to all … comes on board beginning this Monday, February 13th. We live in a busy, noisy world with too much going on and all of it moving too fast. Sometimes we just need to take a breath. Truth be told, if we could just stop for 20 minutes a day and simply “be” …. still, quiet, calm, relaxed …. the rest of our day would benefit. This need not be considered a spiritual practice, but given Jim’s 8+ years of graduate work in ministry and theology, it will lean in that direction.
11 am … Monday through Friday … 20 minute UNGUIDED silent time …. call it meditation, call it quiet time, call it prayer .. call it whatever works for you (for Jim, this will be “centering prayer” and if you want to learn more about that, give me a shout…). 20 minutes of time for us to just be still and silent. We’ll bookend 20 minutes of soothing music with a chime on a Tibetan singing bowl and for those interested, a short scripture reading which we’ll take from the sacred texts of the various world religions.
What to bring …. an open heart and mind and perhaps a cushion for your chair. If you need a short prayer to begin, I might suggest this from St Augustine:
O Holy Spirit, descend plentifully into my heart. Enlighten the dark corners of this neglected dwelling and scatter there Thy cheerful beams.
… and perhaps one to leave with as you continue your day….
Let me not forget you as I go forth into the world this day, blessed Lord; may my every word be a prayer, and my every act be testimony to your love and truth, and may I know your presence every second of this day.
There is no need to RSVP and all are welcome .. we’ll circle some chairs in the back turf area at 2 The Max and close the door at 11 am daily. Unplug 2 Reconnect.
