For each session, a common open and closing thought might be appropriate for you .. use our suggestion if it helps you! This is done silently…. The close is your exit thought — again, if it helps you. We will follow the silent time by sharing a bit of wisdom from the sacred texts, writings, teachings and sayings of major world religions and/or cultures .. keep an open mind — wisdom is found everywhere!! We will read this aloud at the end of the 20 minute silent meditation, but give you the opportunity to exit if you desire.
O Holy Spirit, descend plentifully into my heart. Enlighten the dark corners of this neglected dwelling and scatter there Thy cheerful beams. — St Augustine
Let me not forget you as I go forth into the world this day, blessed Lord; may my every word be a prayer, and my every act be testimony to your love and truth, and may I know your presence every second of this day.
Wisdom for Reflection: (today from the sayings of Lao-Tzu, the father of Taoism)
I have three precious things, which I hold fast and prize. The first is gentleness; the second is frugality; the third is humility, which keeps me from putting myself before others. Be gentle, and you can be bold; be frugal, and you can be liberal; avoid putting yourself before others, and you can become a leader among men.
Wisdom for Reflection: (today from Native American sayings … Chief Seattle – Suquamish Tribe – Northwest Coast of United States)
Humankind has not woven the web of life.
We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.
All things are bound together.
All things connect.
Sacred Text for Reflection: (today from the Hindu Bhagavad Gita)
The peace of God is with them whose mind and soul are in harmony, who are free from desire and wrath, who know their own soul. 5:26
Sacred Text for Reflection: (today from the Hebrew Scripture/Christian Old Testament)
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
